While I was babysitting Addie today I came up with the idea of taking advantage of the anniversary of Lemonymous (its 10th) by doing a re-release thing. I had intended to do the whole re-release thing in 2020 (which would have been the 15 year mark), but I actually got a little traction from old friends when I posted that this year marked ten years of the album’s release, so I thought maybe I should just do the whole remix/remaster thing this year, put it out with a nice 16 page booklet and call it a day! So I pitched that to my manager and he seems on board with it. I think the idea will be to essentially pre-sell units much like a crowdfunding site like PledgeMusic would do, except do it myself, since it’s only friends and family that are likely to donate, and PayPal won’t take as much money away as crowdfunding sites would. That way I get to put more of what is donated to what it was intended for. And I can get people on the mail list, I can use this as a sort of test for how we might do things raising money for the new album’s release, and we’ll see what happens. I’m also going to try and do a dance remix companion to it… do some kind of dance remix stuff with all the songs from the album. Or maybe some alternate takes and some “rare” stuff from that period.

Today, after a great breakfast at IHOP with Emily and Addie, I did some work on the Lemonymous 10th anniversary fold out wallet and 16-page booklet. I also did some work on the crowdfunding page (but very little). So far everyone I’ve talked to seems sold on the idea and I genuinely feel that since I’m only asking for $1200 (yes… I know… “only“…) there’s a good chance I’ll raise it.
We had the premiere of Emily’s short film Are You Listening at Barefoot Charlie’s in Hendersonville tonight. There were a couple concerns going in about the technical aspects of some things – making sure people could see it; ensuring that the sound was good etc – but it all went smoothly and was received really well! We got some great compliments (I got some regarding “Believe”… some people didn’t know I did music), the story was praised, as was my editing, and people were genuinely floored that our two DPs, who didn’t work together but on separate days, hadn’t met until tonight. Everyone feels really good about it, wants to work with us again (or in some cases work with us for the first time), and have a good feeling that this will do well in festivals. I’m pretty convinced of that myself. Just a matter of which ones.
In particular everyone felt really good about the message of the story and in fact there were apparently some tears. That’s awesome!

I put out an official press release regarding plans to re-release Lemonymous. I think this is just the right way to go and I can’t wait to get started on it. I gave the 2009 “Special Edition” version a listen in my car today. It’s actually not nearly as bad as I thought (purely from a mixing and mastering standpoint). It’s not going to take a lot of work to make it sound even better, as it’s all in a decent place as it is. There are just some songs that could benefit from the techniques I’ve learned since Spring 2009.
As for Lemonymix, the remix/rarities/alternative takes companion, I know what I intend to do with some songs but not others. I know I’m going to put “Another Moment” (the bonus track on the “Special Edition”) on it, leaving only the original tracks on Lemonymous; I’m going to probably do an acoustic rendition of songs like “Like A Dream” and “My Girl, My Love, Let’s Kiss” (probably both using the original vocal tracks); I’m going to do the slowed-down, lyrical version of the song “Reverse Psychology” that I’ve always wanted to do; and I’m going to redo the vocal for “March of Thieves” to give it the actual lyrical progression I had always intended… if I can find the original lyrics. But other songs like “Hide and Seek”, “Manipulation Under Stress” and “Epiphany”… I have no idea what I’m going to do yet.
I also asked the Chamber of Commerce in Hendersonville (where our own company is a member) if they knew of any place I could find space to record in. They haven’t been able to find anything. I’m even looking for unconventional places.
